Nanofiltration membranes are used for two purposes; desalting and concentration. Desalting is the process that removes salts in the manufacture of both powder and liquid dyestuffs. The dye, retained by the membrane, is desalted and concentrated, increasing its strength by reducing the salts and low molecular weight organics content.
Plant capacity can be increased using nanofiltration prior to drying in the production of powder dyes. In the manufacture of liquid dyes the solubility of the dye is enhanced by almost complete desalting which helps to improve the stability of the product.
